Senior Legal Counsel

Role Synopsis:

A great new opportunity has arisen to join our legal team; we are looking to hire a new colleague as Senior Legal Counsel working on a wide and diverse portfolio across the Group. This role will give exposure to a wide range of challenging projects and contracts. As a key business partner, a Senior Legal Counsel will be actively involved in cross-border contract negotiation, project support, potential claims and implementation of the Group’s internal policies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements and legal documentation (client contracts, bid agreements, joint venture agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and consultancy agreements).
  • Managing legal claims, preparing internal reports, and coordinating with external counsel.
  • Convening and administering board of directors and shareholders’ meetings
  • Ensuring effective corporate governance and compliance with applicable legislation
  • Ensuring the consistent application and implementation of the Group’s internal policies and procedures.
  • Advising senior executives on complex legal and strategic issues.
  • Ensuring regulatory and corporate compliance across the Group and its subsidiaries.
  • Overseeing litigation and managing relationships with external counsel.
  • Supervising junior legal staff and promoting a strong legal and compliance culture throughout the organization.
  • Monitoring legislative changes and providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Identifying and mitigating legal risks and making policy and workflow recommendations for the company and its subsidiaries.

Desired background:

  • 5+ work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, previous experience in the construction, infrastructure or engineering department of a law firm or construction, infrastructure or engineering company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Master of Law in Construction law (advantage), admission to the bar (advantage).

Required skills:

  • Analytical and problem-solving ability; independent and informed decision-maker; ability to be persuasive and assertive when needed; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments; business acumen; risk management; and leadership skills.
  • The role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, along with a proactive approach. It involves daily interaction with senior-level executives as well as colleagues at all levels across the Group.
  • To excel in this role, the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment is essential.
  • Proficient user of MS Office programs.
  • Languages: Azerbaijani and English are required; knowledge of Russian and Turkish will be positively valued.
